Social responsibility is an essential part of Selena Group's operations, which is why we are happy to do various initiatives relating to corporate social responsibility (CSR). We try to plan our aid activities to ensure they bring tangible support and respond to current challenges.
1. Solidarity with Ukraine
In 2022, we helped 10 families of our employees and partners from Ukraine to find their safe haven in Poland. It is worth noting that Selena Group employees arranged for transport of those families from the border. We also organized a fundraiser among employees for foundations that help Ukrainians. During Selena's 30th anniversary gala, we supported the Ukraine foundation by “clocking up kilometers” on exercise bikes – this event resulted in several thousand zlotys being sent to the foundation's account. We also helped two Ukrainian families who fled war-ravaged Ukraine to Poland by donating computer equipment to them so that their children could take part in distance learning. Local fundraisers for Ukraine were also organized by our production plants in Poland and Spain.
2. Fighting the pandemic together
In 2020, we became engaged in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. In April, we started the production of our own sanitizer using the production line of our Dzierżoniów plant. The first batch of the disinfectant (10,000 pcs) was provided free of charge to over 50 entities, mainly medical facilities in Lower Silesia. Funds were also sent to children from the Between Heaven and Earth foundation, which helps families of terminally ill children, as well as to elderly people as part of the “Facemask for the Senior” (“Maseczka dla Seniora”) campaign organized by the Lower Silesian Voivodship’s Marshal Office. In 2021, in the another edition of the campaign, we donated more than 1,200 packages of the sanitizer to medical institutions and children from the Between Heaven and Earth Foundation. Selena's employees also took their own initiative and supported those in need by producing face shields with the use of our Tytan Professional products.
3. Support for employees
Selena's employees can count on support in any circumstances, no matter how hard. In an act of empathy, people from Selena Group raised funds for their colleague from Kazakhstan whose daughter suffers from a serious illness. A special account was set up to receive donations from the Group's employees. Our Kazakh company will also contribute the equivalent of the amount donated by the employees. Those funds will be used to purchase an expensive vaccine from the Israeli Biotherapy International Clinic.
4. Mentoring
We believe that the hallmark of a good employer is that it motivates employees to develop. That’s why we support the aspirations of our employees in learning and acquiring new skills. Many of them benefit from development initiatives, such as Selena Effective Manager Academy (cooperation with the ICAN Institute), Selena Online Future Academy, online coaching, and mentoring. During the pandemic, in turn, we provided counselling support to our team members.
5. Gifts from the heart
Our help also includes donations to those in need. For example, together with Ceramika Paradyż we did a project for the Children's Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw (2020/2021), jointly donating 8 tons of adhesive and 72 liters of primer, as well as 1,353 m2 of stoneware tiles for the purpose of construction of a fairy-tale elevator shaft. We also published a book with fairy tales given out to young patients who had undergone a surgery.
6. Working with foundations
As part of our corporate Christmas campaigns, we joined the Noble Gift (Szlachetna Paczka) campaign several times. We also supported the Between Heaven and Earth foundation, which received funds donated by both Selena Group and our employees. We help the Wroclaw Hospice for Children foundation in a similar way. Our production plants, e.g. in Dzierżoniów and Nowa Ruda, also organize charity initiatives, such as collection of essential items for fire victims or a fundraiser for homeless animals. Every year, Selena's employees are also happy to participate in the Corporate Run, which is held to support the Everest foundation.
7. Recognition for talent
We supported young musicians by sponsoring the WroClavile International Piano Competition in Wrocław. We also cooperate with the Intelligent Start Foundation, which provides scholarships and other forms of assistance to talented young people. For several years, we sponsored the MANUS foundation helping members of the “PWR Racing Team” – a research club of the Wrocław University of Technology. In addition to financial support to the students, we also donated our products (polyurethane foams, adhesives and high-temperature sealants) needed to build the racing car for the Student World Championships.
8. Supporting the passion for sport
In accordance with the slogan “a healthy mind in a healthy body”, we appreciate all the sports pursued by our employees. Selena supports the Wrocław tennis player Joanna Kołowrotkiewicz, who made her debut in the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour. She competes in the largest Polish series of tennis tournaments and is part of Poland’s national team. We also funded costumes for a sportswoman participating in the Individual Polish Senior Badminton Championship.
9. Recognition for our initiatives
Our CSR activities are recognized in the country. In 2022, Selena Group was awarded with the Crystal of the Polish Economy in the “Responsible Business” category. The competition was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, and the Ministry of State Assets. In 2021, the Group also won an award in the Green Champions ranking – the award goes only to those companies that meet the requirements in the area of green awareness, sustainable management, and circular economy.
10. Tone from the top
Selena’s founder, long-standing CEO and currently the main shareholder – Mr. Krzysztof Domarecki – has been involved for many years in initiatives designed to combine economic, social and environmental development. He constantly shares his vast knowledge and experience in a number of meetings and events, including during the European Economic Congress, G2 Forum, Congress 590 and the Three Seas One Opportunity. He is a member of the first program council of the University of Economics, currently sits on the council of the University of Wrocław. He supports young investors through an investment fund, also helping them develop business and managerial competences.
